What are the requirements to be a Leader-In-Training (LIT) at Camp Breathe Easy?
1. Must be 16 or 17 years old.
2. Complete the application process (including application, registration fee, and follow-up documents).
3. Attend LIT Training.
4. Acceptance to LIT program (decision based on completion of above requirements).
What does a LIT do at Camp Breathe Easy?
The primary duty of LITs at Camp Breathe Easy is to assist counselors in the implementation, direction, and maintenance of an excellent program of care and enrichment for children with asthma in a safe, healthy, and fun environment.
This position requires the ability and desire to relate constructively to children and the practical know-how in providing a safe caring atmosphere.
~ work under the supervision of camp counselors to provide age and medically appropriate
activities in designated areas.
~ provide support and encouragement to campers.
~ aid counselors in supervision of children, cleanliness, and safety of surrounding environment.
~ use positive reinforcement consistently for appropriate interaction and behavior with children and
~ attend staff meetings during camp week when required.
~ communicate daily with camp counselors about needs, activities and issues of concern.
~ conduct him/herself in compliance with policies, practices, and procedures of Camp Breathe Easy.
~ stay with his/her group at all times.
~ work with campers and counselors to promote, encourage, and supervise health practices related
~ complete all necessary forms and evaluations before, during & after camp.
~ work with co-counselor and other staff members as a "team".
~ report to his/her assigned counselor(s), LIT Leader, and Unit Leader.
Fees & Cost of Camp Breathe Easy
Camp Breathe Easy is operated in partnership with the American Lung Association and Camp Twin Lakes. The cost of camp is more than $1000 per. Due to our generous donors, the total camp fee for LITs is $30 per LIT.
A $30 non-refundable camp fee is required and should be paid upon acceptance as a LIT, to process the application.
How do I apply to be an LIT at Camp Breathe Easy?
If your child is interested in becoming a LIT for Camp Breathe Easy, please complete the LIT application. Please note the deadline for applications.
There are a limited number of spots in the Camp Breathe Easy LIT program. The CBE Planning Committee will accept applicants based on the completion of required paperwork, attendance and performance at the LIT training.
Important Dates for LITs
March 31, 2017 – LIT Application due.
TBD – LIT Training at Sally J. Hale Center.
TBD – Open House at Camp Will-A-Way in Winder, GA. This is a great opportunity for LITs to meet the camp director, try activities and get a taste of camp.
TBD - LIT Acceptance Notification.
May 1, 2017 – Registration Fee ($30) and Physician Forms due.
July 9, 2017 – Camp Breathe Easy begins!
Attendance is mandatory at the LIT Training. This meeting is vital to the success of the Camp Breathe Easy LIT program, and is required for all new and returning LITs. This training is part of the application process and your acceptance is partially based on your attendance at this meeting.
